Issue 3 of Subtext is out! Get it here! Tell your friends!

Also, I appear to have ants. Any suggestions?

  1. For the ants, you need to find where they’re coming in and lay down an ant-killer – just a bit of the powder scattered at that point or placed in a jam jar lid is enough.

Keep all sweet things ant-proof – in air-tight containers.
For some reason I don’t remember ants being much of a problem in the UK. Most houses here in NZ have them, especially when it rains and all the insect life moves inside.

  2. Some years ago my home was invaded by ants shortly after I began digging up my garden to lay a new lawn and in the process disturbed their ant colony. Respectfully, I allowed the ants time to rescue their precious larvae and retreat to safer territory deeper underground. Quite an amazing feat of organization which took them about half an hour. Clearly, they were unhappy with this act of wanton destruction and some made a beeline for my room. This involved a small congingent of ants trooping through the kitchen, through the lounge, up a flight of stairs and into my room. They did not invade anyone else’s! I took this as a form of silent protest and simply allowed them to get on with it while the others repaired their abode. A few days later they were gone. I know it sounds weird but its the truth! I naturally have great respect for the ant and ant culture!

  3. Ants (apparently) don’t like to cross white powder – put down some flour across their entry point and they won’t cross it.

  4. A friend told me the other day to sprinkle baby powder. ??? Of course in my hysteria (that’s a bit dramatic), I chose the KILL KILL KILL option and resorted to yucky chemicals. So I have no idea if the baby powder idea works. I suppose that was completely not helpful. But yea for Subtext!! ;-)
